Learning basic Japanese

Are you interested in Japanese but don't know where to start?

This course is for you!

This is an online live course where you can meet your instructor and ask questions real time. What's more, there are other classmates who you can practice with and who can motivate you.

After taking this class, you'll be able to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases, introduce yourselves and others, and ask and answer personal questions, such as where you live, people you know and things you have!

Isn't it exciting?

How does a lesson look like?

When?

Sundays ( 4 lessons / month, no class on holidays)

8:00-9:00PM (GMT-5, EST). Subject to change.

Material?

There's no mandatory textbook, but here're recommendations for you to study before or after class.

OR

If you want to buy textbooks, I recommend checking Amazon.co.jp. You'll probably find that these books are less expensive compared to local bookstores or other Amazon sites.

AND

  • Dictionary (paper or electric), so that you can study by yourself.

Lesson?

In each lesson, a few grammar points will be introduced. The order of grammar points will follow "Minna no Nihongo". We will practice these individually, with a pair, or a small group.

We'll also review what was taught in the previous class. If students have questions, there will be time to discuss that as well.

Between each class?

There will be no official homework that you have to hand in for the next lesson, but I'll tell students which exercise to do if they so desire. That way, you can ask questions about these exercises in the next lesson!

Like any other language study, the more you input, the faster you can improve ;)

A bit about your instructor

Hi! I'm Satomi. I was born and grown up in Kumamoto, Japan. (Kumamoto is a prefecture, which is located in the South of Japan.)

I have Japanese teaching certificates for high school and junior high school.

I live in Montreal, Canada now with my partner, son, and a cat. (Yes, I'm a cat person, if you haven't noticed yet!)

I've been teaching Japanese in Montreal since 2011 and before that, I was a teacher in Japan.

I have taught Japanese at language schools, for an enterprise, as well as privately.

I've taught everyone from complete beginners to business level. Some of my students started studying Japanese from zero with me, and they ended up going to Japan to study more or travel. I'm so happy when people reach their goals!

I enjoy teaching and meeting new Japanese learners, like you.
